Mastery Levels measure how much Experience a Profession has gained. Unlike Efficiency, a profession's mastery level cannot decrease.
There are three distinct mastery levels: Beginner, Advanced, and Master.

Bonuses

Upon increasing a profession's mastery level, that profession will recieve permanent bonuses.

Gathering Professions

Each time a profession's mastery level increases, the next tier of that profession's corresponding resource nodes will be unlocked.
Players will also recieve more gathering attempts.

Crafting Professions

Increasing a crafting profession's mastery level increases its profession-specific bonus:

Profession Mastery Level Increase
Alchemy
Beginner Nothing.
Advanced 1 additional buff to crafted consumables.
Master 2 additional buffs to crafted consumables.
Construction
Beginner Nothing.
Advanced +5% crafted Artifact power bonus.
Master +10% crafted artifact power bonus.
Mysticism
Beginner Nothing.
Advanced 1 additional buff to crafted consumables.
Master 2 additional buffs to crafted consumables.
Weaponsmithing
Beginner Nothing.
Advanced 1 additional artifact with rune effects can be equipped.
Master 2 additional artifacts with rune effects can be equipped.
