As a player gains [[experience]], they also gain Mastery Points. These are used to upgrade the character's core [[Skill]]s. Upgrades can only be selected if the player has also selected the previous upgrade on the branch. Upgrades do not grant perks that function independently from the skill. Between each upgrade, there are two smaller upgrades which make smaller alterations to the skill's attributes.<br>

Each weapon mastery has a unique set of abilities and a unique playstyle.

A Mastery is a type of Hero that wields a unique Weapon. Each Hero can be specced into three unique Weapon Masteries, each with different Weapon Talents wherein a Mastery's core abilities can be upgraded. Each Mastery has 4 unique skills and one special passive ability.
Once a Mastery's Weapon Talents have upgraded enough, players gain access to another Weapon Mastery under their chosen Hero.

Each skill has a different branch in the mastery tree, including Special Skills. The first four horizontal branches represent the Q, W, E, and Special skills respectively. Each horizontal branch can be upgraded 13 times (including the smaller upgrades represented with '+' icons). The branch for the R skill is located to the right and can only be upgraded twice. Players can upgrade their skills a maximum of 26 times.
